An apparently simple job to replace the original six internal doors with new heritage doors from trade and fitted with new heritage door furniture… apparently simple.
Most of the old doors had been swapped from right to left hinging and in two cases back again to the original hinge side. In the latter case, hinges were repositioned so the door frame was cut and holed all over the place. The hinges were the wrong Grade for the doors and had a diversity of screws that would have impressed a collector. Being an Edwardian property the door frames had layer upon layer of lead paint as well as modern over-coats too. As with most old properties the frames weren’t square.
The approach for this job was a root and branch stripping back to the wood of the frames filling all the voids and starting afresh. New timber jambs were fitted after the hinges, locks and latches had been aligned and fitted.
As a general rule, there is no such thing as ‘just hanging a door’.
